Steve & Eleanor in Malta

Hi! My name is Steve and I created,  write, develop recipes and take photos for; This Guy Cooks. I thought I’d tell you a little bit about myself. I live in Salisbury in the UK with my Fiancée Eleanor, tomcat Toby, 2 rabbits Dobby & Padfoot and some fish.

Ever since I was a young lad, and my mum taught me to cook a bolognaise sauce from scratch I’ve enjoyed cooking. Over the years that enjoyment has become a passion and now, I simply can’t stop thinking about it. I read cookery books from all the greats, I watch more cookery shows than you can count on your hand (major Masterchef Australia fan) and try with every opportunity to further my skills and try new things.

I have had a very varied career, but the most important to my love of cooking has to be my career as a photographer on board P&O Cruises. This job allowed me to travel the world for free and spend my hard earned money on trying every cuisine on offer to me. I’m 26 now and was able to travel to 76 countries around the world. This allowed me to really refine my tastes and develop, what I hope, is quite a good palette. You can check out some of my snaps from around the world here: stevenixonphoto.com

Why have I created this guy cooks? Well, it’s a good question followed by an easy answer. I love food, I love photography, I can sort of write (I want to get a lot better) and it became quickly apparent that this is something that could combine the things I love and share it with other people.

My Favorite dish is Lasagne (who doesn’t love it)

My favorite cocktail is a Pina Cólada

My favorite drink used to be pepsi but I’m slowly kicking that habit, replaced by strong coffee!

My favorite tv show has to be Masterchef Australia (the UK one just doesn’t do it for me at all)

If you’d like to know anything else, Say Hi, and connect with me on the socials.

Why I Blog

I have only really been aware of the power of blogging for the last few years. 9 times out of 10 I would find new recipes I wanted to try from another cooks blog. The whole process of creating, documenting and sharing is just something that really speaks to me. For me, why I blog is about giving something back, showing those who I’ve learnt from exactly how far I’ve come and hopefully, inspiring others to do the same.
